Gasherbrum II, standing at 8,035 meters, is the second-highest peak among the six Gasherbrum Mountains in the Karakoram Range. It was first successfully ascended on July 8, 1956, by an Austrian team led by Fritz Moravec, alongside Josef Larch and Hans Willenpart. During their climb, they established Camp 1 at 6,005 meters and a bivouac just below 7,620 meters. Conquering Gasherbrum II demands advanced technical mountaineering expertise, exceptional physical fitness, and proper acclimatization.
Reaching the base camp requires a journey through Skardu, followed by a week-long trek along the Baltoro Glacier. The base camp for Gasherbrum I and II is shared, with both peaks utilizing the same climbing route up to Camp II.
The best time to climb Gasherbrum II is between June and August, the prime climbing season.
